How To Pick Out Farm Muck Boots

If you have recently started working on a farm, then you probably already know that boots are absolutely essential to your job. However, if you have made the mistake of wearing a regular pair of lace up work boots, then you have likely started to experience some boot leaks. Since the farm land is probably covered with some cow manure and other fecal matter, this can cause an issue. Much of this material may be covered with bacteria like salmonella and E. coli that can make you ill. To keep pathogens away and to also keep your feet clean, you should invest in a good pair of farm work boots called muck boots. If you have no idea how to choose the right boots, then keep reading.

Look For Neoprene

Some muck boots are made out of rubber materials. While these boots may protect your feet, you should look for varieties that are made out of neoprene instead. Neoprene is a synthetic material that looks and feels a lot like rubber, but it has many advantages over rubber. Neoprene is resistant to breakdown when chemicals are spilled on the boots. The material is also flexible and extremely durable, and it is resistant to degradation from high levels of heat. While your boots may not be exposed to high levels of heat, they will be exposed to the rays of the sun. You do not have to worry about this heat damaging the boots over an extended period of time if you choose neoprene varieties.

Neoprene also has great insulation properties, and this will help to keep your feet warm if you need to work during the cold weather months. On the other hand, rubber can break, crack, and become quite cold when worn. Also, heat can dry out the rubber over time.

If you can, look for boots that are made completely out of neoprene. Some boots will have a rubber sole or boot upper, and neoprene will be placed around the toe. A thin layer may also sit around the outside or inside of the boot. However, these boots will not be nearly as durable as ones that are made completely out of neoprene.

Invest In Mesh Linings

If you are working in the summer, then your feet are likely to become hot and sweaty. Since neoprene is a solid and nonporous material, the sweat may remain in your boots. Sweaty feet can lead to blisters. Also, feet that stay moist can create the perfect environment for bacteria and fungi to thrive.

Make sure to wear breathable cotton socks when you wear your muck boots. You will also want to purchase boots that have an interior mesh lining. The mesh will create a barrier between your feet and the neoprene where air can circulate around and keep the feet dry. Also, many mesh linings are made from cotton or synthetic materials like rayon. Rayon itself is a breathable material that can help to wick moisture away from the feet. Try to stay away from liners made from polyester or nylon. These materials are not breathable like cotton and rayon.

If the mesh liner does not provide you with enough warmth in the winter, then make sure to purchase a separate sock or boot liner. If you go with a cushioned variety, then the liner may help to add a bit of comfort to your work boots.

If you have just started to work on a farm, then you need to make sure that you have all of your gear ready for a hard day's work. Muck boots should be part of your gear. Just make sure the boots are made from neoprene and contain liners to help your feet breathe. For more information, contact a local work boots supplier.
